Switchfile
1099 e-filing · FIRE to IRIS

FIRE is retiring. Your 1099s still go out.

The IRS FIRE system takes its last filings on November 19, 2026 and retires December 31. The forms due February 1, 2027 need a new route. We clean your payee sheet, flag TIN and address problems, and hand you IRIS-ready CSVs plus a step-by-step switch plan.

  • Fix list before January
  • IRIS CSV format
  • You choose who files

How it works

Clean data now. Easy filing in January.

Send your payee sheet

Whatever you have: QuickBooks export, vendor list, spreadsheet.

We clean and map it

TIN format, name length, state, ZIP, missing addresses and the reporting threshold, mapped to the IRIS 1099-NEC template.

You file your way

Upload in the IRIS portal with your own TCC, or hand the clean file to a low-cost filing provider.

The deliverable

A switch report and a fix list

The fix list is the value: every payee you need a W-9 or address from, while there is still time to ask.

  • Fix list: TIN, name, address and threshold problems per payee
  • IRIS 1099-NEC CSVs in batches
  • Your switch plan: own IRIS TCC or a provider, with dates
  • A W-9 request template for the payees on the fix list

Honest comparison. If your payee data is already clean, a filing provider such as IRISfile files under its own TCC for well under a dollar a form ($0.76 listed on irisfile.co, Oct 2026). That is the cheapest route, and we will tell you so. Switchfile is for messy payee lists and firms with many clients to clean up before January.
FAQ

Questions buyers ask

Do I need my own IRIS TCC?

Only if you want to upload in the IRIS portal yourself. IRISfile advises applying by Dec 18, 2026 to be safe for January. A provider that files under its own TCC avoids that step.

What changes for 2026 payments?

The 1099-NEC reporting threshold rises to $2,000 for payments made in 2026 under the 2025 tax law, and new boxes are planned for tips and overtime. Confirm with your tax professional.

Do you file for me?

No. We prepare and validate the files. You or your provider submit them.

When is the 1099-NEC due?

February 1, 2027, since January 31 falls on a Sunday.

How big can an IRIS CSV be?

The IRIS portal takes up to 250 rows per upload, so we split larger lists.
